Building Supportive Allyship
This website was created by us, Claire and Charlie, as a space for partners, loved ones, and allies of trans people.
When Charlie came out, I was looking for support, but what I found was a lot of information aimed at trans people themselves. Those resources are absolutely necessary, life-saving, and vital, but they weren’t what I needed at that moment.
I was looking for something different:
- Guidance for partners
- Space for mixed emotions
- Reassurance that love, overwhelm, joy, fear, and pride can all exist at the same time
- Honest conversations that didn’t shame or rush me
That kind of support was surprisingly hard to find.
So I decided to write the book.
The book is rooted in real experience. It’s written from my perspective as a partner, and a former counsellor but it also includes input from Charlie, because this journey belongs to both of us. His voice and viewpoint matter, not as a spokesperson for all trans people, but as one person living his truth and navigating a harsh, cruel world alongside me.
This isn’t a “how-to” guide for trans people or partners. It’s not here to speak over trans people, replace trans-led resources, or simplify something that is deeply personal and complex. Instead, it exists alongside those resources for the ones who love trans people and are trying to understand how to be supportive without centring themselves in the process.
Just so you know:
- You can be supportive and still struggle
- You can love someone deeply and still need space and time to process things
- Partners deserve support too
This website is for people who want to show up with care, honesty, and respect.
You don’t have to get everything right; you just have to care enough to learn.
